In order to be able to safely store even heavy and unwieldy long goods, the so-called long goods storage systems are the ideal solution. These allow full utilisation of existing space so as not to take up more space than necessary. But how exactly does this racking system work and what are the advantages and disadvantages of the existing structures?
When customised packaging is important, storage systems are a good solution. Intuitive system operation makes it quick and easy to access the long goods and minimise the floor space required for storage. Here, all existing components are optimally coordinated with each other to ensure a fully usable area, especially in tight production and manufacturing environments.
Different types of long goods storage are, for example, cantilever racking, honeycomb racking or roll-out racking, through which several modules can be combined to make full use of the storage space. Especially the basically unwieldy goods such as wood, tubes or other structures of logistics can be connected in this way in a sensible and space-saving way to find a good and professional solution for all components.
A storage rack of this type has the distinct advantage that it can be individually adapted based on the quantity to be stored. By adding additional cantilever arms, it is easily possible to expand the modular systems and use the entire space as functionally as possible. The systems can also be ideally used externally and can be relocated without any problems due to their individual adaptability.
The associated flexibility means that the storage shelving is always safe and trouble-free, so that it adapts to the existing structures in the company. In order to make even better use of the space around the long goods warehouse, many of the systems can be used on both sides, so that quick storage but also quick access is possible at the same time. In this way, the long goods can be stored professionally and as easily as possible without having to forego the basic orderliness of the systems.
Even though long goods storage systems are basically very practical and easy to expand, they do require quite a large area. Moreover, most warehouses of this type can only be used according to the LIFO principle, which means that the stocks stowed last must also be the first to be taken out of the warehouse again. The biggest disadvantage, however, is that the shelves can only be filled with large materials. Pallets or other designs are very difficult to combine with the systems, making other storage variants necessary.
If a large area is available for storage, the modular systems are ideal. With individual adaptations and comprehensible structures, it is no problem to constantly expand the existing storage possibilities and to rely on flexibly operating systems. Nevertheless, it should be clear that sufficient space must still be available for smaller versions to professionally supplement the long goods. If the necessary systems are available, such a racking system is a good asset for every forwarding company to benefit from a sensible structure.
