Prologis celebrates ground-breaking ceremony for sustainable logistics property in Illingen

On 17 April, Prologis celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for a logistics property in Illingen near Stuttgart together with around 50 guests, including representatives from business and politics as well as business partners. A sustainable property with around 13,000 square metres of high-quality logistics and office space is being built on a 45,000 square metre site in a logistics and commercial area in the north of Illingen. Prologis plans to complete the project in December 2024.

Prologis used the ground-breaking ceremony to present a donation cheque for 10,000 euros to the Stromberg school's support association. The organisation supports school projects that focus on social interaction. Armin Pioch, Mayor of Illingen, as well as Frank Lehmann from beverage manufacturer Ensinger, former owner of the property, and Hans Seckler from Prologis addressed the guests.

"With its location in the Rhine-Neckar region, the Illingen site has great potential, which is why we are confident that we will quickly find a user for the state-of-the-art property," says Hans Seckler, Director Capital Deployment at Prologis. "With the new property, we are not only creating space for jobs in the region, but also paving the way for more sustainable and future-proof logistics."

Focus on sustainability

Prologis Park Illingen DC1 is being built on an undeveloped plot of around 25,000 square metres. As an "all-electric building", the building will be powered without fossil fuels. The building will be equipped with heat pumps and electric charging stations. The roof areas are intended for the installation of photovoltaic systems. The building will also be equipped with hybrid doors so that both lorries and vans can dock for loading and unloading.

Prologis is also aiming for a gold certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council. "Innovation and sustainability go hand in hand in the construction of Prologis Park Illingen," says Hans Seckler. "With this property, we are setting an example for environmentally friendly energy supply and innovative logistics solutions."

Trust in the region

On the same site, Prologis will develop another building with around 10,500 square metres as a brownfield project on the second section of around 20,000 square metres. Construction is scheduled to start at the end of the second quarter of 2024. "With the decision to develop both buildings speculatively, Prologis is underlining its confidence in the economic strength of our region, which we are very pleased about," says Armin Pioch.
