GLOBOS Logistik- und Informationssysteme GmbH (GLOBOS) from Hanover, which specialises in automatic identification and data capture, and HIV-Hoffmann GmbH from Bielefeld, a specialist in industrial image processing and automation technology, are jointly setting the course for their future development: GLOBOS has acquired HIV-Hoffmann in order to combine the complementary technological competencies of both companies and thus lay the foundation for a broader range of solutions in intralogistics. The parties signed a corresponding purchase agreement on Friday of last week and completed the transaction yesterday. Björn Hoffmann will remain sole Managing Director of HIV-Hoffmann. The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details.
The competencies of the two companies complement each other particularly in capturing and processing information in logistics and industrial processes. While GLOBOS has extensive experience above all in mobile data capture, Auto-ID and software solutions and their integration into existing IT systems, HIV-Hoffmann contributes particular expertise in stationary identification, industrial image processing and sensor technology as well as their integration into automated production and logistics processes.
Intralogistics in technological transition
The background to the planned merger is the profound technological change in intralogistics. Reliable identification and capture of goods remains an indispensable basis for efficient processes. At the same time, real-time detection of goods movements and process states, industrial image processing and the intelligent networking of different systems are becoming increasingly important.
“Together with HIV-Hoffmann, we want to further expand our role as a solutions and technology partner and support our customers comprehensively, over the long term and reliably as they develop their intralogistics,” explains Arndt Brockmann, Managing Director of GLOBOS. “The requirements for intralogistics processes are changing fundamentally. Many processes will be more highly automated in future. An important prerequisite for this is to capture information reliably, merge it from different sources and make it usable for controlling processes. This is exactly where our competencies complement each other and open up new opportunities for our customers.”
New prospects for customers and employees
By combining their competencies, the companies will in future be able to cover a broader range of tasks – from mobile and stationary data capture and the automatic recognition and inspection of goods to the integration of the information obtained into higher-level processes. This makes it possible to make goods movements more transparent, reduce sources of error, automate quality inspections and organise processes more efficiently.
The two existing locations and company brands are to be retained. In future, HIV-Hoffmann will operate under the name “HIV-Hoffmann – ein Unternehmen der GLOBOS-Gruppe” (a company of the GLOBOS Group). In this way, the companies combine their respective strengths while preserving their long-standing customer relationships and their independent identity.
“Over many years, we have developed HIV-Hoffmann with a high level of technical expertise, close proximity to our customers and the aim of finding the right solution for every task,” says Björn Hoffmann, Managing Partner of HIV-Hoffmann GmbH. “In GLOBOS, we have found a partner that shares our values and quality standards and whose competencies complement our own perfectly. Together, we can further develop our strengths, realise more demanding projects and offer our customers additional solutions. This also opens up new prospects for our employees.”
