GLP signs lease agreement with DSV in Neustadt near Coburg
Frankfurt, 30 April 2024 - GLP, a leading global developer, owner and operator of logistics real estate, data centres and renewable energy systems, has leased its sustainable new logistics building of around 47,500 square metres (m2) in Neustadt near Coburg in the Nuremberg metropolitan region to the international transport and logistics service provider DSV. The centrally located site expands DSV's existing distribution network for the Germany-wide supply of a major drugstore customer. The building will be available from the beginning of May. Operations are scheduled to start by July.
"By letting the Coburg logistics centre even before completion, we are once again demonstrating that we offer strategic logistics properties in central locations despite a shortage of space and that our sustainable offering fully meets the requirements of our customers. With the rapid development of this ultra-modern property and the short lead time until its handover, we are contributing to the growth of our new customer DSV and sustainable distribution in its network," says Michael Gerke, Head of Development Germany, GLP.
The new logistics property in Neustadt bei Coburg ideally complements the existing logistics network that DSV maintains for its retail customer.
"From here, we can easily reach the 41 local transshipment centres for supplying our customer's retail stores throughout Germany," emphasises Rolf Wetzel, Senior Director, Retail Distribution & Services at DSV. "This allows us to distribute additional volumes to the stores and also support the growth of the region around Neustadt," continues Wetzel. The site is in an excellent location on the B4 federal road in the immediate vicinity of the A73 motorway.
The logistics centre offers around 40,100 m2 of hall space, 6,300 m2 of mezzanine space and around 1,100 m2 of office and social space in four hall sections, as well as parking spaces for 180 cars and 27 trucks.
Like all of GLP's new developments on the German market, the property was built in accordance with the strict environmental protection criteria of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and the DGNB Gold standard.
Recycled materials from the previous building were used during construction. Certified, recyclable, new building materials were also used. GLP thus makes a significant contribution to the sustainability of the property. Recycling the materials from the previous building offers a further advantage: CO2 emissions that would have been generated during the production and transport of new materials were avoided from the outset.
Thanks to the sustainable construction method, DSV can reduce its energy consumption, CO2 emissions and water consumption, thereby lowering its operating costs. The building is heated by a sustainable heating system with energy-efficient air-to-air heat pumps. The property is equipped with energy-saving LED lighting and 18 charging points for electric cars. The planned installation of a PV (photovoltaic) system on the roof is also possible. The clean solar power generated in this way will allow tenants to increase their independence from fluctuations in energy prices.
