Fully established in Kaiserslautern. ID Logistics receives contract extension for sustainability-oriented, employee-intensive e-fulfilment centre

  • Black Week and Christmas 2023: ID Logistics ideally equipped for the most important e-commerce period
  • Investment in personnel and ESG measures

The distribution centre operated by ID Logistics Germany (Griesheim) in Kaiserslautern since January 2021 for a global e-commerce company has fully established itself. The contract for the modern e-fulfilment centre, from which ID Logistics ships up to 1 million small and medium-sized goods nationwide in parcels, was extended ahead of schedule by the customer until 2026.

"We are delighted about the contract extension and the trust placed in our team," explains Robin Otto, CEO of ID Logistics Germany. "With our location in Kaiserslautern, we support our customers in saving time and costs while keeping pace with the high dynamics in e-commerce to guarantee a seamless shopping experience for end consumers. Our focus is on managing volatile order volumes while increasing efficiency in the warehouse. This is only possible with a proven ability to manage fluctuating resource requirements."

The contract is a customised e-commerce logistics concept for the customer with a large variety of items and a wide range of order quantities, which can be implemented at high speed (same day / next day orders). At the Kaiserlautern site, the international contract service provider ID Logistics keeps around 70,000 different items permanently available on site, which are packed and loaded within a very short time using a highly intelligent warehouse system.

"With its set-up of eCommerce expertise - which includes fulfilment for small and medium-sized items as well as solutions for large appliances, sorting for the middle mile and last-mile delivery - and the assumption of social and ecological responsibility, ID Logistics Germany is one of the leading providers in eCommerce in the German market," says Detlef Kurzbuch, Director Commercial at ID Logistics Germany and responsible for business development.

ID Logistics Germany has many years of experience in setting up and implementing complex large-scale projects with up to 1,000 employees in large logistics centres and has the necessary willingness to invest in buildings and intralogistics. In Kaiserslautern, this includes extensive storage, picking and conveyor systems including sorting systems and automated pick-and-pack solutions worth over 10 million euros. As part of the contract extension, ID Logistics is currently expanding its storage capacity by 4,000 pallet spaces to 32,000 pallet spaces. This means that ID Logistics now has almost 90,000 pallet and shelf spaces at the site.

"After weekly seasonality and strong individual order days, promotions such as Black Friday or Cyber Monday, we are currently approaching the pre-Christmas business - the period with the highest turnover in retail and e-commerce," reports Murat Erdem, Head of the Kaiserslautern site of ID Logistics Germany.

ID Logistics believes it is ideally equipped for this. Today, an average of 400 highly qualified and motivated employees work at the e-fulfilment centre in Kaiserslautern in the areas of incoming goods, warehousing, order picking and shipping, and up to 600 at peak times.

The flexibility in the provision of personnel and in personnel management enables ID Logistics to fully exploit its strengths in eCommerce fulfilment. To this end, ID Logistics has developed its own highly efficient personnel recruitment and deployment management system, which is regarded as a pioneering approach in the industry. The ID Logistics Group invests over 200,000 hours in training courses worldwide every year to expand the expertise of its employees.

In the past two years, ID Logistics has also invested more heavily in ESG measures in Kaiserslautern, i.e. in the areas of the environment, social aspects and responsible corporate governance.

By introducing a digital energy cockpit, which actively and optimally controls gas and electricity consumption, as well as various individual measures to reduce consumption, ID Logistics was able to reduce CO2 emissions by 440 tonnes per year in 2023. In addition, the company plans to retrofit a large-scale photovoltaic system on the roof of the existing property.

The Kaiserslautern site is also the pioneer among all German ID Logistics logistics centres for the establishment of bee colonies for biodiversity, which contributes to a CO2 compensation of 120 tonnes per year. The concept was developed in Kaiserslautern and is now being implemented at seven other ID Logistics locations in Germany.

The construction of outdoor social areas at the site for employees to relax and regenerate during breaks is also worth mentioning.

As part of its ambitious global corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitments, the ID Logistics Group has, among other things, increased the employment rate of people with disabilities by 20% by 2025 (compared to 2018).
