Science Based Targets initiative validates Fiege's net zero targets

As part of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Fiege has committed to reducing its direct and indirect emissions of climate-relevant greenhouse gases to net zero in the long term. The SBTi has now officially confirmed the climate targets of the Greven-based logistics service provider.

Greven, 8 July 2025 — Test passed: The Science Based Targets initiative has validated Fiege's emission reduction targets. The contract logistics expert has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50.8 per cent (base year 2021) and its Scope 3 emissions by 42 per cent (base year 2023) over the next five years. By 2050, Fiege aims to reduce its direct and indirect emissions to net zero in line with the Paris Climate Agreement to meet the 1.5-degree target.

Felix Fiege, who runs the 150-year-old family business together with his cousin Jens Fiege as co-CEO, explains: ‘Over the past 18 months, we have worked meticulously to develop ambitious climate targets that will enable us to achieve the net-zero transformation of our company. The validation of these science-based targets by the SBTi is an important step for us, enabling us to deliver on our sustainability promise and offer even greater transparency to our 22,000 employees, our customers and society.’

Last year, the logistics service provider's sustainability team held several workshops in the Fiege Group's international business divisions in preparation for the development of a roadmap. The aim of these workshops was to identify as diverse and comprehensive a range of measures as possible for reducing CO2e emissions. The next step is to develop these results into detailed reduction paths and establish structures for tracking measures and KPIs. Important building blocks for this include further collection and improvement of data quality, the ongoing electrification of the vehicle fleet and increased conversion to alternative fuels, energy-efficient operation and expansion of the 136 Fiege locations worldwide, optimised resource utilisation and close cooperation with customers and suppliers.

Sandra Achternbusch, Executive Director of Corporate Sustainability at Fiege, says: "As a family-owned company, we want to and must live up to our climate responsibility. Climate protection is an important part of our corporate strategy and can only be achieved if we unite all our colleagues behind this goal. We are delighted that our net zero targets have been validated by the SBTi, which is an important confirmation of our sustainability efforts."
