Nagel-Group expands network of locations: New mega-center for food logistics in Bremen
Bremen, 23 July 2026. With a new mega-center in the freight center (GVZ) Bremen, the Nagel-Group, one of Europe's leading food logistics companies, is setting the next milestone in its strategic development. The 36,650 m² food hub strengthens the company's presence in northern Germany and creates additional capacity for further growth. The tailor-made build-to-suit project is being built on a plot of land of around 90,510 m² and is being developed and implemented by the industrial, logistics and commercial real estate developer Panattoni. Construction work will begin in October 2026. Completion and handover are scheduled for December 2027.
"The new logistics centre in Bremen is an investment in the future of food logistics. The new location will combine state-of-the-art logistics processes with a sustainable energy concept and creates the conditions for further growth. At the same time, modern jobs are being created in one of the most important logistics regions in Germany," explains Lars-Erik Poths, CEO of the Nagel-Group.
The logistics centre will comprise around 29,500 m² of hall space, 5,200 m² of modern office and social space and 1,950 m² of mezzanine space. The property will be specially tailored to the requirements of food logistics and will include a cross-dock terminal and temperature-controlled areas for ambient, fresh and ultra-fresh products. The planned equipment also includes a four-storey office wing, a truck workshop with a car wash, a petrol station and an extensive charging infrastructure for trucks, cars and bicycles. Around 400 new jobs are to be created at the site in the future, including around 20 apprenticeships.
An essential part of the project is the sustainable energy concept. Photovoltaic systems are planned for energy supply in combination with an electricity storage system that temporarily stores self-generated solar power and makes it available as needed. The heating and cooling supply is fossil-free via a modern heating and cooling system with integrated building management system. DGNB Gold certification is being sought for the new building.
The tailor-made development of the new logistics centre is based on close cooperation between the Nagel-Group and Panattoni. "The project shows how important the partnership-based exchange of ideas between all those involved is. At an early planning stage, we were able to work with the Nagel-Group to develop a concept that is optimally tailored to their requirements and at the same time meets high economic and sustainable standards," says Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner Panattoni DACH & Nordics.
With its trimodal connections by road, rail and water, the Bremen freight village is one of the most efficient logistics locations in Europe. The immediate proximity to the A281, A1 and A27 motorways, Bremen Airport and the seaports of Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Hamburg creates ideal conditions for national and international flows of goods.
With the new mega-center, the Nagel-Group is consistently continuing its course of modernizing and further developing its European network of locations. The Bremen location will become an important building block in further strengthening the performance, sustainability and future-proofing of food logistics in Germany and Europe.
