CargoLine puts new hub into operation - successful launch in the night from 24 to 25 February
Frankfurt am Main, 1 March 2023 -- Last Friday night, CargoLine's new central and European hub in Niederaula in eastern Hesse went into operation on schedule after a construction period of just under one and a half years. The state-of-the-art facility now serves an average of 82 routes in Germany and Europe every night.
"With the construction of a generously dimensioned hub, we have clearly set the course for further growth in the 30th year of CargoLine's existence. Its spatial and organisational planning reflects the requirements of modern pan-European transhipment architecture," explains CargoLine Managing Director Bernd Höppner, adding: "We are particularly proud that the construction of this facility was a joint financial effort by CargoLiners. This once again demonstrates the good cohesion of the partners and the forward-looking orientation of the network.
Meticulous planning for maximum efficiency
In the new building, which was worth tens of millions to the co-operation, the two facilities for national and international transport, which were previously located in Eichenzell near Fulda and structurally separate, were brought together under one roof. This enables shorter throughput times and - coupled with the convenient location on the A4, 5 and 7 motorways - earlier arrival times at the partner depots and therefore faster delivery of consignments.
A plus in administrative and operational efficiency is also guaranteed by the careful analysis and preparation of all processes before the start of construction planning, the mix of different industrial trucks in order to be prepared for every activity during handling, as well as the equipment with state-of-the-art hardware and software. "Based on daily evaluations, further adjustments and optimisations can also be made on an ongoing basis," explains Site Manager Uwe Heinbach. The proven expert in the planning, organisation and operation of hubs was hired by CargoLine specifically for the new facility in 2022. Alongside him and Bernd Höppner, Uwe Lachmann, Managing Director at Hartmann International (Paderborn), and Torsten Huberti, Managing Director at Schmidt-Gevelsberg (Schwelm), were also heavily involved in the planning and realisation of the facility.
Ecologically exemplary
When planning and realising the new building, the general cargo cooperation always had environmental protection in mind. As a result, the facility achieves the "Efficiency Building 40 EE" standard and thus falls well below the statutory energy requirements. This is primarily due to the high proportion of emission-free renewable energies such as environmental heat. For example, they cover at least 74 per cent of the total energy required to supply heating and cooling to the new building. Compared to a standard building, this means a saving of 5,448 kilograms of CO2 per year.
