ThielemannGroup acquires stake in Haus Cramer logistics subsidiary BOXX Intermodal Logistics

Logistics subsidiary of the Haus Cramer Group gains strategic partner

Mönchengladbach/Warstein, 13 November 2023: ThielemannGroup acquires 49 percent of the shares in BOXX Intermodal Logistics GmbH & Co. KG, the logistics subsidiary of the Haus Cramer Group. The Haus Cramer Group includes the breweries Warsteiner, Herforder, König Ludwig and Paderborner as well as the beverage service provider H.C. Drinks Solutions. BOXX Intermodal Logistics focuses on door-to-door deliveries, in which long-distance shipments are handled by rail with low emissions. The contracts were signed on 31 October 2023 and the parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

BOXX Intermodal Logistics is based in Warstein (NRW), where the brewery of the same name has its own railway siding with a gantry crane. The Haus Cramer Group founded the logistics subsidiary in September 2021 in order to also offer external customers environmentally sustainable door-to-door transport.

"With the ThielemannGroup's entry, we will be able to grow even faster than planned and expand our network," says Daniel Küster, Supply Chain Director of the Haus Cramer Group and Managing Director of BOXX Intermodal Logistics. "We already handle around 30,000 TEUs annually via the terminal and have established a depot status in Warstein with well-known shipping companies. Our common goal is now to further expand our routes and to utilise the existing BOXX Intermodal Logistics trains even better thanks to the additional sea freight volume of the ThielemannGroup and the large potential for new customers in the region. At the same time, the close cooperation enables us to offer existing and potential customers from different industries a joint, efficient, convenient and environmentally conscious one-stop shopping solution."

Ecologically sustainable transport by rail

With the new intermodal location in Warstein, entrepreneur Navid Thielemann can now also offer his group's customers transport by rail. "This completes our end-to-end supply chain with an important and particularly sustainable logistics solution and creates solid north-south coverage," says Navid Thielemann, CEO of the ThielemannGroup. "Our radius extends from the North Sea and Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean."

The logistical backbone of the ThielemannGroup are the holdings in the overseas forwarding company Overseas Logistic Services (OLS), one of the leading overseas logistics providers in the west of Germany, and the RECHT Logistik Group, also based in North Rhine-Westphalia, which has twelve contract logistics locations across Germany and operates its own modern fleet of over 200 lorries. Thielemann is currently building ultra-modern and sustainable e-commerce logistics centres for the RECHT Logistik Group's contract logistics division.

"We are clearly focussing on online retail - we are creating the best logistical conditions and growth opportunities for it," says Navid Thielemann. "This includes multimodal locations and combined transport, in particular ecologically sensible transport by rail, which also pays off for long distances."

More departures, more destinations, more volume

BOXX Intermodal Logistics operates from the Warsteiner Container Terminal to the major cities of Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Verona in Italy in cooperation with various rail freight transport companies. BOXX Intermodal Logistics offers a full service for all transport operations and takes care of stowing and loading the containers as well as organising the transport to the customer's loading ramp. "We now handle three to five complete block trains per week," says Daniel Küster. "However, our clear goal is to increase the number of departures, expand loading and train capacities and offer new destinations."

With the expected volumes of the ThielemannGroup and the acquisition of new customers from the region, higher capacity utilisation, improved pairing of transports and thus increased efficiency are expected. "With the products of our Haus Cramer Group, we are very export-orientated and deliver to more than 50 countries worldwide," explains Daniel Küster. "In addition to Warsteiner beers, we also transport textiles, tiles and electrical appliances as return cargo via the port of Hamburg - thanks to our flexibility, we can transport almost all goods in containers."

The situation is different for the ThielemannGroup: "Many of our customers import goods and are dependent on reliable storage, order picking and sustainable distribution, and we also export large quantities from Germany to overseas via the northern ports," says Navid Thielemann. "With BOXX Intermodal Logistics, we are strengthening our end-to-end supply chain with an efficient intermodal location that can be used to handle long-distance transport by rail in an ecologically sound manner. We complement each other perfectly as shareholders."
