In the heart of Europe - ThielemannGroup builds state-of-the-art logistics centre in Bavaria

Mönchengladbach/Wernberg-Köblitz, 28 March 2024: The ThielemannGroup is investing around 30 million euros in Wernberg-Köblitz in the Upper Palatinate: Construction of a modern logistics centre, which will be built in accordance with the Gold Standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), will begin this year on a plot of around 53,000 square metres. The tenant of the facility is the RECHT Logistics Group, headquartered in Brühl (NRW). It will be their fourteenth location in Germany. It will handle complex logistics tasks for well-known e-commerce customers from the home tool and electrical retail sectors.

For Konrad Kiener, First Mayor of Wernberg-Köblitz, the planned logistics property is further proof of the good strategic location: "With the opening of the borders to Eastern Europe, our location has moved to the centre of Europe and has developed into an important hub in Bavaria in recent decades. Our commercial and industrial area West II offers ideal connections to the metropolitan regions of Munich and Nuremberg via the A93, A3, A6 and A9 motorways, as well as perfect access to the Central and Eastern European markets."

Upper Palatinate - high demand for logistics

Whether mechanical engineering, automotive or construction industry - the Upper Palatinate offers the most industrial jobs per capita in Bavaria. Numerous large international companies have their operations in the greater Regensburg area. The central and northern Upper Palatinate is characterised by many small and medium-sized industrial companies, which often occupy a leading international position with their innovative strength1. Industry and trade have a high demand for efficient warehouse solutions as well as upstream and downstream order picking and logistics services.

For Navid Thielemann, CEO of the ThielemannGroup, these are the best prerequisites for investing in a state-of-the-art and sustainable logistics location: "In Wernberg-Köblitz, we are developing a logistics centre with an area of over 32,000 square metres on a 53,000 square metre site. The facility is expected to start operations in the second quarter of 2025," says Navid Thielemann. "The conditions are ideal: the site has already been developed and development plans are in place. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the municipality, which we have found to be unbureaucratic and extremely constructive."

Long-term utilisation secured

Wernberg-Köblitz will benefit from the fact that the tenants and users of the facility have already been finalised: The RECHT Logistik Group will take over comprehensive logistics tasks for existing customers from the home tool and electrical trade. "In addition, we are creating a range of state-of-the-art logistics services with which we will open up the market in Bavaria for ourselves," says Christian Karl Flick, CEO of the RECHT Logistik Group. "We are confident that we will also gain new customers here, whose projects we will realise efficiently and to a high standard in the new logistics property. This will enable us to continue our growth in Bavaria in the future."

The RECHT Logistik Group, with its two divisions of freight forwarding and contract logistics, has grown continuously in recent years. The total of 450 employees generated a turnover of around 90 million euros in the last financial year. In contract logistics, the company is expanding its activities in the booming e-commerce business, which is also planned in Wernberg-Köblitz. The proximity to the depot of a large parcel service provider is therefore an advantage.

To ensure reliable transport, the RECHT Logistik Group not only works with partners, but also relies on its own fleet of over 200 vehicles, which is constantly being expanded with new lorries with environmentally friendly drive systems. Another plus point for the new location: There is an LNG fuelling station in the immediate vicinity.

Sustainability is a top priority

"Sustainability plays a major role for us, especially in the development and subsequent operation of our new logistics centre," says Navid Thielemann. "The planned property is to be awarded a DGNB Gold certificate." The plans include a photovoltaic system on the roof, e-charging stations for forklift trucks, a smart LED lighting concept, modern social and office spaces and natural greenery on the five-hectare site wherever its use permits.

Up to 180 new jobs are expected to be created in the new logistics centre. "We hope to find motivated and committed employees in Wernberg-Köblitz and the surrounding area who will accompany us on our growth path," says Christian Flick. The local living conditions are very good: Wernberg-Köblitz is characterised by a high quality of life and good educational opportunities.

The good wishes of Thomas Ebeling, District Administrator of the district of Schwandorf, were received with great pleasure by those involved in the project: "I welcome the settlement in Wernberg-Köblitz and will support the approval process to the best of my ability," says District Administrator Thomas Ebeling. "I wish the company all the best."
