Two 400-tonne mobile cranes lift the valuable cargo from the ship

BREMEN, 20.08.2024 - BLG LOGISTICS is unloading heavy cargo from ships in the so-called "Roter Sand" southern port - a 60,000 square metre expansion area of the BLG AutoTerminal in Bremerhaven. The components of two power plant modules are assembled directly at the quay and prepared for sea transport. The majority of the cargo reaches the port of Bremerhaven via the Weser by barge. Once assembly is complete, the two 500-tonne plants will be shipped to the USA by heavy goods vessel.

The new area with hall capacity in the southern harbour "Roter Sand" in the immediate vicinity of the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven offers the best conditions for extraordinary projects. The handling and assembly of two power plant modules for the customer Siemens Energy marks the start of operations in the recently commissioned area. In the southern harbour, BLG LOGISTICS assembles systems and machines that can no longer be transported by road due to their weight and size, directly on the seagoing vessel's deep water.

Final assembly at the quay

The finished components are assembled directly on the quay. A 20 metre high hall is located there, which is 32 metres wide and 50 metres long, making it particularly suitable for large project logistics projects. Two overhead cranes, each capable of lifting parts weighing 35 tonnes, simplify the assembly process.

Several ship arrivals bring the cargo weighing several tonnes to the southern port. The heaviest component is the generator, weighing over 130 tonnes. A fully assembled power plant module weighs around 500 tonnes. Both modules are transported away on a heavy goods vessel once the project is complete.

Assembly hall specially designed for heavy goods projects

In addition to the space, BLG LOGISTICS also provides the expertise for heavy cargo handling. The parts, each weighing up to 135 tonnes, were unloaded from the barge using two 400-tonne mobile cranes in a tandem lift and transported into the hall using BLG's own self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) and roll trailers. The assembly parts enter the hall through an opulent hall door measuring 25 metres wide and 10 metres high. There, the components are professionally assembled by the customer Siemens Energy's industrial plant specialists.
