Fiege opens new logistics centre in Vienna

The logistics service provider Fiege is strengthening its presence in Austria. In a central location and adjacent to the existing Fiege branch in Vienna, an additional logistics centre of the more than 150-year-old family business has been built. It has been officially opened since Thursday.

Vienna/Greven, 19 September 2025 — The contract logistics company Fiege has completed its new logistics centre in Vienna. With the modern property, which has been built on the former Unilever production site in 7th Haidequerstraße, the family-owned company from Greven in Westphalia is doubling its logistics space in the Austrian capital and strengthening its presence in the Alpine republic in the long term. On Thursday, the new building was officially opened in front of around 100 invited guests.

Thomas Steinhart, district leader of Vienna's 11th district of Simmering, said at the inauguration ceremony: "Almost a year ago, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony at this point. At that time, one could only guess what the logistics center would look like when it was completed. Standing here now and celebrating the opening is a beautiful moment for Fiege, but also for the district of Simmering. I am pleased that Fiege has decided to invest sustainably in the Vienna-Simmering location and to continue to grow here. Congratulations on the completion of the new logistics center."

Dr. Ewa Samel, Member of the Vienna State Parliament and Municipal Councillor, emphasized in her welcoming address: "Logistics is not only a central part of our lives, but also a supporting pillar of our economy and thus also the backbone of every city. I am therefore very pleased about the clear commitment of the family-owned company Fiege to Vienna as a location and congratulate the entire team on the inauguration."

Peter Scherbel, CEO of the Fiege Group, explained: "When we started our Austrian business in 1998, we probably would not have thought it possible that we would open such a great new location in the middle of Vienna a good quarter of a century later. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to all those involved in this project and who made our site expansion possible. We can be very proud of our new logistics center here in Vienna. The new building represents a milestone for the entire Fiege Group – and it opens up a great opportunity for us to offer our customers in Austria efficient logistics solutions, maximum flexibility and, above all, long-term growth opportunities in an exceptional top location."

The brownfield project was implemented by Fiege Real Estate. The new two-storey multi-user centre provides a good 20,000 square metres of additional logistics space for customers in the consumer products, industry, fast-moving consumer goods, fashion and healthcare sectors and meets the highest sustainability standards. Joachim Stern, Managing Director of Fiege Austria, said: "As with all Fiege construction projects, we have also focused on the topic of sustainability." The new logistics centre, which complies with EU taxonomy, was built according to high energy standards and with a PV system on the roof and fulfils the gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Stern emphasised. "In addition, the site is designed for a wide range of automation options and offers our customers the best conditions for smooth logistics – from classic warehousing to transport services and value-added services. And we are very pleased that after the construction phase, things are finally really getting started in our new warehouse."
