Fiege celebrates topping-out ceremony for new logistics centre near Leipzig
The new Fiege logistics centre in Borna is growing as planned. The logistics service provider from Greven in Westphalia is creating flexible growth areas for customers from various sectors in the Borna-Ost industrial estate. The topping-out ceremony for the ultra-modern property took place on Wednesday in the presence of Borna's Lord Mayor Oliver Urban.
Borna/Greven, 26th March 2025 - Construction progressing according to plan: Fiege has celebrated the topping-out ceremony for a new multi-user centre in Borna. The property, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the A72 motorway and is divided into four sections, will create almost 40,000 square metres of logistics space for customers from various industries as well as additional administrative, office and social spaces. With this sustainable new building, the 150-year-old family business is strengthening its presence in the Leipzig/Halle logistics region.
Oliver Urban, Lord Mayor of Borna, said in his welcoming address. "The establishment of the new Fiege logistics centre in Borna is a significant impulse for our city and the entire region. By creating modern jobs and a sustainable construction method, Fiege is making a valuable contribution to economic development and the energy transition. We look forward to a successful collaboration and extend a warm welcome to Fiege!"
The project development, for which Fiege Real Estate is responsible, has a strong focus on sustainability. The property will be equipped with intelligent building management technology and office frontages with a timber façade system. Centralised heating and cooling will be provided by air-to-water heat pumps, while highly efficient LED lamps will be used for the lighting. On the roof, Fiege is installing a PV system with an output of around 4,500 kilowatt peak, whose energy will be used for the e-charging infrastructure, among other things.
Upon completion, which is planned for late summer 2025, the logistics centre will fulfil the EG-40 standard as well as the gold status (2023 version) of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Nikolaus von Blomberg, who heads the Fiege Real Estate business unit together with Kai Alfermann and Thoralf Schuster as Managing Directors, explained: "Our goal is to rethink the logistics property of the future. By combining the various measures in the Energy Solutions division, we can develop our logistics centres into small, sustainable power plants - and not just here in Borna. And thanks to our comprehensive biodiversity concept, we are ensuring that we proceed with the greatest possible consideration for nature."
