Fiege builds new logistics centre in Hessisch Lichtenau

The logistics service provider Fiege is building a new multi-user centre in Hessisch Lichtenau. In the planning, the family-owned company from Greven in Westphalia attaches particular importance to the topic of sustainability. Completion of the logistics center is scheduled for autumn 2026. The anchor customer for the use of the state-of-the-art property will be the long-standing partner Falken Tyre Europe.

Hessisch Lichtenau/Greven, 13 November 2025 — The Fiege Group began construction work on its new logistics centre in Hessisch Lichtenau in October. The state-of-the-art property, which is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026, will have almost 52,000 square metres of logistics space spread over five bays as well as additional office and social space. The construction project is being implemented by Fiege Real Estate. As an anchor customer of the logistics centre, Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, the European subsidiary of the Japanese tyre manufacturer Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI), is continuing to drive its growth course in Europe from the centre of Germany.

Stephan Stenger, Head of Supply Chain & Operations at Falken Tyre Europe GmbH, says: "With the new location in Hessisch Lichtenau, we are consistently continuing our expansion course. The location is another important milestone in our Europe-wide logistics strategy and the basis for further expanding our logistics. Last but not least, it underlines the strength of our partnership with Fiege, which has lasted for more than 15 years."

Christian Thiemann, Managing Director of Fiege's Tires business unit, explains: "We are very grateful for the trust placed in us by our long-standing customer Falken and are pleased that we can continue our joint success story and expand it with our future location in Hessisch Lichtenau. Thanks to its good location and connection to the A44, the new logistics centre fits perfectly into our existing network of locations and will help us as a service provider to offer Falken even more efficient, flexible and scalable logistics solutions."

In the planning and development of the EU-taxonomy-compliant logistics centre, Fiege is placing a special focus on the topic of sustainability and is aiming for gold certification (version 2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The new location of the more than 150-year-old family business will have resource-saving mineral wool insulation and energy-efficient LED lighting. Sustainable air-to-air heat pumps take care of the heating. The electricity required for this will be generated to a large extent by a photovoltaic system on the roof, which will provide a total output of 3,000 kilowatt peak. In addition, an automated building management system and smart monitoring tools ensure optimized energy consumption of the logistics center and a site-specific biodiversity concept has been developed.

Nikolaus von Blomberg, Managing Director of the Fiege Real Estate division, says: "Fiege is pursuing ambitious sustainability goals. We want to reduce our emissions to net zero in the long term and produce more renewable energy by 2030 than we consume ourselves. The construction of sustainable and energy-efficient logistics properties is a decisive lever for this. That's why we attached great importance to the topic of sustainability when planning our new location in Hessisch Lichtenau – as with all our construction projects."
