BLG LOGISTICS: Start of operations at the new inland terminal in Ahlhorn

Start of operations in Ahlhorn: The new location team together with the BLG LOGISTICS project team.
Ahlhorn, 2 July 2025 – BLG LOGISTICS' new inland terminal in Ahlhorn officially began operations on 1 July. This is an important milestone for the expansion of the logistics infrastructure in northern Germany. The first customer is already active. At the same time, targeted recruitment is beginning: BLG LOGISTICS is looking for committed employees from the region who would like to play an active role in shaping the new location.
Initially, 20 employees will be working at the new location – a combination of internal experience and new colleagues from the region. The employees are supported by an experienced project team that has been driving the development of the location forward for months. The plan is to expand to around 200 employees by the end of 2026.
Growth potential and sustainable development on 35 hectares
‘A new location with space for around 16,000 vehicles – including technical services – is being built in Ahlhorn. This is not just more space – it is a commitment to the future of the AUTOMOBILE segment,’ emphasises Axel Krichel, Member of the Executive Board and COO of the BLG Group. ‘We are seeing growing demand among car manufacturers for integrated logistics, technical services and a proven distribution network – areas in which we are already well positioned. In Ahlhorn, we are systematically building on our strengths.’
The new domestic terminal in Ahlhorn offers extensive development opportunities on around 35 hectares. The site in the Hansalinie Metropolpark – on the grounds of the former air base – has been leased on a long-term basis for this purpose. 2,500 parking spaces will be available when operations start. In the medium term, an expansion to up to 16,000 parking spaces is planned. Planning is also underway for a technology centre, which will provide additional impetus for services and strengthen the location technologically.
Sustainability is a central component of the location strategy: the use of green electricity, a photovoltaic system on the hall roof and modern heat pump technology are in the planning stage. Low-emission transport solutions via rail can already be offered. In addition, an expansion of the rail infrastructure is planned.
‘We are delighted with the successful start of operations and the trust placed in us by our first customer. The demand already shows the potential of this location. We still have a lot to do – not only in terms of infrastructure expansion and team building, but also in expanding our range of services for existing and new customers,’ says Thomas Menke, branch manager of the Ahlhorn inland terminal.
Strategically strong position
The new terminal is conveniently located – only about three kilometres from the A1 and A29 motorways – at the intersection of the European north-south axis. Its proximity to the seaports of northern Germany and the Netherlands makes Ahlhorn a central logistics location for national and international goods flows.
With the terminal in Ahlhorn, BLG LOGISTICS is expanding its existing network with another high-performance hub. The complete expansion of the site is scheduled for completion in 2026. As BLG's sixth inland terminal, Ahlhorn is making an important contribution to the strategic development of the logistics company – while also creating attractive jobs and new prospects in the region.
