Zagreb / Lauterach, 14 October 2025. 25 years ago, Gebrüder Weiss opened its first branch in Croatia. At that time, the country was just beginning its economic transformation. Today, the international logistics company draws a positive balance. "We believed in Croatia's potential early on and it paid off. The country's economic development since EU membership and integration into the Schengen and euro area have been decisive catalysts for our business," says Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Chairman of the Executive Board of Gebrüder Weiss, on the company's anniversary.
Since entering the market in 2000, Gebrüder Weiss has continuously invested in infrastructure, digitalization and the expansion of its services. At its three locations in Zagreb, Rijeka and Split, the company offers comprehensive solutions in the areas of land transport, logistics solutions, air and sea freight. At the headquarters in Zagreb, built in 2019, the logistics terminal was recently expanded, increasing the logistics area to over 20,000 square meters. Gebrüder Weiss is thus responding to increased customer demand in the international and national movement of goods.
The home delivery business developed particularly dynamically as a result of the e-commerce boom. Especially in the tourist areas on the Croatian Adriatic coast, the demand for end customer deliveries remains high. For this reason, an additional transshipment warehouse is being planned near Split (Dalmatia).
"Croatia offers not only a strategically excellent location for freight transport between the EU and the Western Balkans, but also an attractive environment for investment. Access to the important Adriatic ports of Rijeka, Koper and Trieste as well as the good transport infrastructure make Croatia a high-performance logistics location with great development potential for multimodal transport," explains Thomas Schauer, Regional Manager Central and Southeastern Europe at Gebrüder Weiss. In the future, Croatia is to be used even more as a transshipment point for onward transport to neighbouring countries.
Modern, digital and sustainable logistics solutions
In order to grow sustainably, Gebrüder Weiss is also combining economy with ecology in Croatia: This includes efficient building and energy management using photovoltaic systems and heat pumps, as well as the expansion of electromobility. Currently, five electric vans are in use in Zagreb, and two electric cargo tricycles are also on the road on the islands of Rab and Lošinj.
With investments in digital services, automated processes and the training of skilled workers, Gebrüder Weiss is further strengthening its position in the Croatian market. "Our goal is to offer customers modern, digital and sustainable logistics solutions – and at the same time to create attractive jobs in the region," says Barbara Bujačić, Country Manager Gebrüder Weiss Croatia.
