The pfenning logistics group, a family-run contract logistics service provider, today celebrated the laying of the foundation stone for the multicube berlin. The symbolic start of the building construction phase was attended by Sabine Löser, Mayor of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, representatives of the construction partners involved, existing customers and the pfenning Group.
The construction project on a 40,000 m2 site in Herzfelde, a district of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, comprises the extension of an existing property by an additional 20,000 m2 of usable space. Of this, 1,200 m2 is mezzanine space and 1,000 m2 is office and social rooms. The property will have a clear height of 14 m, six lorry loading bays and space for 20,000 pallet bays as well as block storage on a further 7,000 m2 of hall space. The building is conveniently located in the immediate vicinity of the Berliner Ring motorway (A10) and has excellent connections to Poland.
Construction work is expected to be completed by the end of February 2024. The pfenning Group is carrying out the entire development of the project itself and will take over the future operation according to the multi-user principle. In this way, tenants will benefit from flexible warehouse space rental according to individual requirements. This will create high-quality warehouse space for a wide range of customers, strengthening the local economy with logistics services across all sectors.
Another special feature of the project development is the environmentally friendly measures in line with pfenning logistics' sustainability strategy. For example, the property fulfils currently recognised energy standards such as the KfW Efficiency House 55 standard to a high degree. Large-scale rooftop photovoltaic systems will generate solar power.

Sabine Löser, Mayor of the municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin, comments: "The municipality of Rüdersdorf near Berlin is one of the largest business centres in the eastern Berlin area. I am delighted that we are once again demonstrating our attractiveness with further new settlements and sustainable expansions. A trend that has been observed in recent years is that new, innovative companies, as well as existing companies, are increasingly focussing on reducing their emissions. Even in the case of traditional commercial establishments such as the pfenning Group, I am committed to working closely with the municipality to find ways to minimise the impact on the people who live here. The consistent use of the federal road 1/5 with its existing bypass around Herzfelde on the way to the A10 motorway is one such example."
Rana Matthias Nag, Managing Director of pfenning logistics, states: "Another milestone has been reached on the way to a strong logistics network for our customers from industry and trade. The multicube berlin offers space for a wide range of industries in an up-and-coming economic region near Grünheide. In this way, pfenning logistics is continuing to drive forward its nationwide expansion strategy. I would like to express my sincere thanks for the excellent cooperation with the local authority and all those involved. We are very pleased with the rapid progress of the construction activities, which are right on schedule."
