Venlo, April 24, 2026 – Søstrene Grene yesterday officially opened its new distribution center of around 45,000 square meters at Trade Port Noord in Venlo, the Netherlands, developed by Prologis. The property is located in Prologis Park in Venlo and will ensure the supply of Søstrene Grene stores as well as customers in parts of Europe. This is the retailer's first distribution location outside Denmark.

The new location is intended to strengthen Søstrene Grene's European logistics structure and support the company's next phase of growth. It has been selected according to Søstrene Grene's logistical requirements and offers efficient access to the Dutch market as well as key European markets due to its proximity to the A67, the German border, and rail and inland waterway terminals.

"The opening of this distribution centre is an important step for Søstrene Grene. This gives us a stronger logistical base to supply our stores and customers across Europe and lays the foundation for the next phase of our development," said Mikkel Grene, CEO and co-owner of Søstrene Grene.

This site is more than just a new logistics facility; rather, it reflects a broader range of expectations that are currently shaping developments in the logistics industry: operational performance for customers while reducing emissions, renewable energy generation, and a well-thought-out design of the working environment and location.

Designed as an all-electric facility, Prologis is aiming for BREEAM Excellent and WELL Gold certifications, meeting high international standards for environmental performance, energy efficiency, and user well-being. This goal is pursued throughout the project, including the use of recycled steel and recycled coating materials, as well as various solutions for the floor with different proportions of steel and concrete to reduce material consumption and the amount of carbon sequestered. The innovative, seamless concrete floor slabs are designed to improve the surface level, reduce joints and reduce material consumption and the amount of carbon sequestered. The steel structure was designed with a view to later dismantling and reuse. A life cycle analysis helped to compare conventional materials with the alternatives used in the field.

Another important component of the concept is the energy supply. The rooftop solar system has a total capacity of 3.3 MW, with around 0.7 MW earmarked for the property's own needs and 2.6 MW fed into the local power grid.

The well-being of the employees was taken into account in the design of the site: through outdoor areas, planting with native and bee-friendly plants as well as

Sensors within the building that monitor air quality and automatically adjust ventilation to ensure a healthy indoor climate.

To support the commissioning, Prologis took care of the expansion of the warehouse and personnel areas, the fire protection and compliance measures, and the integration of the automation and e-commerce areas. A further automation phase is planned for next year.

"The real value we can offer as a partner is to identify a customer's goals early on, find the right location for long-term growth, and help shape the right building and operational structure from the start. This is exactly what we have set out to do at Søstrene Grene in Venlo," says Bart Konings, Leasing Director at Prologis.

"We are very pleased to welcome Søstrene Grene to Prologis Park Venlo DC9 and to support this important step of the company on its path of growth in Europe. This project reflects how expectations of logistics real estate are evolving: customers increasingly need more than just a building in a good location. They need a long-term solution that combines construction quality, energy efficiency and operational readiness," says Gina Helmold, VP, Head of Capital Deployment & Leasing Benelux at Prologis.
