Pioneering logistics project: Bürger logistics centre offers Nagel-Group 2,500 m² of handling space
Ditzingen, 10 July. 2024. Increased efficiency in the supply chain, time and CO2 savings: The leasing of a handling area of 2,500 m2 in the newly opened BÜRGER logistics centre takes the long-standing partnership between the two family-owned companies BÜRGER and Nagel-Group to a new level. The BÜRGER logistics centre comprises a storage area of 12,000 m2 with two high-bay warehouses and a total of 16,000 pallet spaces.
The collaboration between the Swabian pasta specialist BÜRGER and the logistics company Nagel-Group, which specialises in food logistics, began over 35 years ago. While an average transport volume of approx. 8,500 kg of pasta was handled per loading day at the beginning, 260,000 kg are now handled daily. To collect these quantities, an average of 20 Nagel-Group lorries are loaded daily with products from the extensive BÜRGER range.
Until 2003, all shipments were loaded from the BÜRGER site in Ditzingen; from mid-2004, Logistics Centre I in Crailsheim could be used. in 2018, initial considerations were made to expand the logistics centre. Discussions with the Nagel-Group about the positive effects of renting storage and handling space in the planned logistics centre followed in 2019. Both companies saw significant potential in a logistics project in a closely adjoining area, which is why BÜRGER planned 2,500 m2 of handling space in the new building for the Nagel-Group to rent. The official transport and rental agreement was signed by both parties in August 2023 to intensify the successful partnership.
The cooperation will have numerous positive effects: firstly, it will improve loading logistics for goods recipients north of Crailsheim, as the intermediate stop via the network location in Reichenbach will no longer be necessary in future. This will not only save time and a turnaround in the supply chain process, but also minimise the risk of damage and incorrect loading. By eliminating the 1800 kilometres that the Nagel-Group trucks used to travel to the network site in Reichenbach every day, around 1000 tonnes of CO2 can be saved each year. BÜRGER and Nagel-Group see these CO2 savings as an important building block in their respective sustainability strategies.
Comments on the co-operation:
Thomas Teuchert, Managing Director, BÜRGER:
"The Nagel-Group has been a constant companion in my work for BÜRGER. In this respect, I am particularly pleased that we have now been able to realise this project at the end of my professional career. I wish us a good start and many years of constructive cooperation."
Carsten Taucke, CEO of Nagel-Group, Nagel-Group: "We at Nagel-Group are very pleased to have been able to accompany and support BÜRGER's successful journey for more than three decades. By moving closer together, we are saving on shuttle transport to the Nagel branch in Reichenbach, from where we previously fed the BÜRGER products into our Nagel network to distribute them in Germany and Europe. This intermediate step is now no longer necessary, and with it around 1800 kilometres that our lorries used to cover every day. From now on, it will go directly from here in Crailsheim to the Nagel-Network and then to the recipients. This will save us around 1000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year."

All facts about the new building at a glance
Data on the logistics centre:
Investment volume: 45 million euros
18 loading bays
12,000 m² of frozen and chilled storage space
16,000 storage spaces: 11,200 storage spaces in the frozen high-bay warehouse and 4,800 storage spaces in the chilled high-bay warehouse
Nagel-Group has a handling area of 2.500 m2 with nine loading gates.
The high-bay warehouses in the refrigerated storage area are each 34 m high.
Fire protection technology: Both high-bay warehouses are inerted*, the rest of the warehouse is fire-protected with water sprinklers.
*Inertisation: The space is enriched with nitrogen so that the oxygen content in the air is reduced to 14.5 %, which prevents the development of fire. The reduced oxygen content corresponds to what you would experience on a mountain hike at an altitude of 6,000 metres.
