IDS partner Geis with new depot in Ebersdorf near Coburg-more capacity for Upper Franconia

Kleinostheim, 14 December 2023: In Ebersdorf near Coburg in Upper Franconia, located directly on the A73 motorway, the new freight forwarding terminal of IDS partner Geis Group has now been launched in the IDS network. With the new building, Geis Bischoff Logistics is replacing its Lichtenfels site, thereby also strengthening the IDS network.

At over 30 years old, the forwarding facility in Lichtenfels no longer met today's requirements and was reaching its limits due to the continuous increase in volumes. With the 44,000 square metre site in Ebersdorf-West near Coburg, IDS partner Geis has found an ideal location for new capacities and further growth.

Sustainable new building

The new depot, for which the Geis Group has invested almost 20 million euros, is designed as a "green" terminal that focusses on sustainable aspects. It is the first Geis building of a new generation - in timber-hybrid construction with timber roof trusses, a timber façade for the office building and a partially green hall façade. The hall roof has been fully equipped with a photovoltaic system, while the office building has a green roof. Other sustainable features include large roof light strips for the optimal use of daylight, the use of rainwater for the washing system and a large storage unit for the use of the company's own electricity - including for the use of electric lorries, for car charging stations and for office heating via heat pumps.

The ultra-modern terminal from Geis Bischoff with around 6,000 square metres of terminal space has ten ramp spaces for small trucks and sprinters in addition to the 77 truck loading gates. Small consignments and B2C shipments can be optimally handled here in order to accommodate the constantly growing online business.

Networks strengthened

In addition to its own network, the Geis Group is also strengthening the IDS network with the new building. Both the increased capacity of the new facility and the reorganisation of the IDS regions will make Germany's largest general cargo network in the region even more efficient. The IDS regions of the Geis Group around Bad Neustadt, Nuremberg and Naila will transfer peripheral areas to the Ebersdorf depot. This creates shorter distances and free capacity for future growth - also and especially for Upper Franconia, a very strong economic region with great potential. As a Franconian company, Geis Bischoff Logistics wants to win new customers and open up new markets here with its top service and comprehensive range of services. To this end, the company will increase its team in the region to around 100 employees.
