Gruber Logistics opens offices in Istanbul and Izmir

Kreuztal, 07.03.2023. Gruber Logistics continues to expand. With the opening of offices in Izmir and Istanbul, the South Tyrolean company is emphasising the increased strategic importance of Turkey and the entire Mediterranean region for international trade. Gruber Logistics will handle import and export transports from Turkey, with a wide range of transport services ranging from full, part and groupage loads to special transports as well as air and sea freight.

For Gruber Logistics, 2023 will also be characterised by the development of new markets. The international logistics company already began its development plan for the port of Trieste, Italy, in mid-2021 in order to develop it into its gateway to the Adriatic for connections with the Mediterranean and Turkey in particular. The port of Trieste is the most important southern European hub for transport from Turkey. The bridges across the Bosporus are the most important link between Europe and Asia and have therefore always been a strategic hub for international trade. Gruber Logistics also intends to further expand intermodal short sea shipping and rail transport from Trieste to Germany (Cologne and Duisburg) as part of its expansion strategy.

"When we strengthened our presence in Trieste, we did so in the conviction that the location is not only of great logistical importance, but above all a melting pot of people, cultures and expertise. Turkey is also the intersection of two cultural paradigms, the Asian and the European, which have been meeting and comparing each other for centuries, creating an incredible wealth. I am therefore very pleased to have the task of leading this new project for the company," says Mauro Sepich, head of the Gruber Logistics branch in Trieste and now responsible for developing the Turkish market and its natural links with Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and other countries in the region. The focus will be on the development of the country's imports and exports to and from Europe.

The investment process was facilitated by the opportunity to draw on the local experience of Züst & Bachmeier Project, a company of the German Universal Transport Group, which Gruber Logistics acquired at the end of 2022. Gruber Logistics plans to hire at least twenty employees in Istanbul and Izmir, some of whom have already joined the Gruber Logistics team a few weeks ago.
Gruber Logistics has recorded growth of almost 30% in the last two years with new openings and an internationalisation process. The group is now represented with more than 60 branches in fifteen countries throughout Europe.

Turkey has made significant investments in its infrastructure in recent years, including the construction of harbours, airports and roads. These infrastructure investments have improved Turkey's trade links with other countries and strengthened its position as a transit country.

The growing strategic importance of the Mediterranean region in the new geopolitical balances and the increasing traffic through the port of Trieste have also prompted Gruber Logistics to make the move to Turkey. In addition, the growth forecasts for Turkey are particularly favourable. One reason for this is the shortening of logistics chains, which is putting the Mediterranean region back at the centre of international goods flows.
