Gras IDS depots operationally bundled at the new Polch logistics campus
Geis Group strengthens regional general cargo structure with central Middle Rhine transshipment depot
- Operational bundling of general cargo processes in Polch – new Gras logistics campus as a central road hub for the Middle Rhine region
- In the future, a high-performance IDS depot will serve the bundled area centrally
- Neuwied remains the headquarters and important administrative location of the Gras Group
- Focus on efficiency, quality and stability
Bad Neustadt / Nuremberg / Neuwied / Polch, January 27, 2026.
The Geis Group, one of the leading logistics service providers in Central and Eastern Europe, is realigning its operational general cargo processes in the Middle Rhine region around a year after the takeover of the Gras Group: From 16 March 2026, the region's IDS general cargo activities will be operationally bundled at the newly built transhipment terminal at the Logistics Campus in Polch and centrally managed from there. Neuwied will remain the headquarters and important administrative location of the Gras Group.
"In recent months, we have analyzed the processes at both locations in detail. It became clear what potential lies in bundling," explain Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis, managing partners of the Geis Group. "The two locations are only about 30 kilometers apart. By merging the activities in Polch, processes will be clearer and distances shorter. Our customers benefit from even higher reliability and a high-performance unit."
The merger brings clear advantages for customers: In the modern, more than 6,000 square meter transshipment terminal, processes can be centrally controlled, transport costs in local and long-distance transport can be optimized through better utilization of the vehicles and process costs can be reduced – for example, for forklift trucks and other equipment. In local transport, there will also be no shuttle trips between the two locations. In addition, customers benefit from the fact that double handling is avoided, which has a positive effect on transit times, process reliability and loss ratios.
Strengthened position in the IDS network
The previous two IDS depots in Neuwied and Polch will be merged into a large, high-performance unit. "By bundling our activities at one location, we will be able to act even more quality-oriented and efficient in the future," emphasizes Jens Köster, Managing Director of the Gras Group. "Important for our customers: Nothing will change in terms of the geographical area allocation and the partner structures in the IDS network. We will continue to serve all the previous IDS areas – in the future operationally bundled from Polch."

Neuwied remains administrative location - continuity for employees and customers
The consolidation of the operational general cargo processes is planned and structured. Administration and non-operational departments, including accounting, billing, personnel, sales and the specialized ADR warehouse with workshop, will remain in Neuwied. For customers, the usual contact persons will remain the same, and the proven service quality will be further strengthened by the bundled processes.
The employees affected by the move are informed about the planned measures and will be accompanied during the transition. Since the locations are only about 30 kilometres apart, there is the option of working at the Polch site in the future.
Logistics infrastructure at the highest level
With its new logistics campus, the Gras Group has a state-of-the-art infrastructure at its disposal. The forwarding and handling facility is directly connected to a logistics center that was recently expanded to 75,000 square meters. This proximity enables seamless transitions between warehousing and handling, short internal routes and maximum efficiency in all processes.
"With the bundling in Polch, we are strengthening our general cargo performance in the Middle Rhine region and creating a stable basis for further growth," explain Hans-Wolfgang Geis and Jochen Geis. "We are consistently developing the Gras Group in association with Geis – with modern infrastructure, clear processes and a high-performance unit that will continue to offer our customers short transit times and high reliability in the future."
