Second construction phase: Fiege doubles logistics space in Zülpich
The family-owned company Fiege is expanding its site in Zülpich near Cologne by an additional 50,000 square metres of logistics space and creating around 250 new jobs. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on Wednesday. Completion of the new multi-user centre is planned for autumn 2024.
Zülpich/Greven, 22nd November 2023 - Room for growth: Following the successful establishment of the Healthcare division in 2021, logistics service provider Fiege is expanding its location in Zülpich near Cologne. In addition to the existing logistics centre, a new and modern multi-user centre with an additional 50,000 square metres of logistics space is being built on an area of around ten hectares, which will also be available to customers from other industries from autumn 2024. The ground-breaking ceremony took place on Wednesday and construction is expected to take just under twelve months. The construction project is being realised by Fiege Real Estate.
The family-owned company from Greven in Westphalia, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, is placing a special focus on sustainability in the new building. Like the first construction phase, the entire roof area of the new logistics centre will be equipped with a photovoltaic system that produces solar power for the company's own use and for feeding into the public grid. In addition, the property will be equipped with needs-based LED lighting and state-of-the-art building management technology, and the use of fossil fuels will be completely eliminated.
Zülpich's mayor Ulf Hürtgen says about the expansion of the Fiege location: "I am glad that Fiege has decided to expand the location in Zülpich and create at least 250 additional jobs here. Since Fiege settled here two years ago, a very trusting and good co-operation has developed. We look forward to the continuation." And Alfred Messink, CEO of the Fiege Group, explains: "We are very grateful to the city of Zülpich for allowing us to continue to grow here together with our customers. Due to its location in the centre of the Cologne-Bonn-Aachen city triangle, Zülpich is a very attractive location for us, both within Germany and on the European map. This is another reason why we explored the possibility of building another logistics centre here back in 2020 during our talks with the city - and we are delighted that we can now get started with the second construction phase."
