Noerpel Group opens sustainable logistics terminal for e-commerce fulfilment
- 14.500 square metre facility in Langenfeld near Düsseldorf
- Built to DGNB platinum standard for CO2-neutral operation
- Noerpel subsidiary WEHNER significantly expands space capacities
On Friday, 8 March 2024, the Noerpel Group celebrated the inauguration of a "green" logistics terminal in Langenfeld near Düsseldorf: thanks to sustainable equipment, the building meets the requirements for the DGNB's platinum certificate and the 14,500 square metre facility is CO2-neutral. WEHNER Logistics GmbH & Co KG, the Noerpel Group subsidiary specialising in e-commerce fulfilment, will soon be starting operations here. With its second location in Langenfeld, WEHNER is expanding its space capacity to over 20,000 square metres.
Lucas Noerpel-Schneider, CEO of the Noerpel Group, and Mark Wehner, Managing Director of WEHNER Logistics GmbH & Co KG, welcomed customers, business partners and employees to the grand opening of the new logistics facility, who were able to see the special features of the property for themselves during a tour. The Langenfeld Economic Development Agency was represented by Thomas Zacharias, Head of Corporate and Business Development Consultancy, who oversaw the project in advance and congratulated the opening in a welcoming speech.

"By moving into this facility, we are setting standards for modern logistics services," explains Lucas Noerpel-Schneider. "We are realising top-level e-commerce solutions for our customers - at the same time, we are fulfilling our commitment to greater sustainability in logistics."
Ideally equipped
At the start, the logistics centre is equipped with 15,900 pallet spaces and 5,000 shelf spaces, a small parts warehouse, over 30 packing stations and a partially automated warehouse. In the final expansion stage, WEHNER plans to increase the capacity to 20,000 pallet spaces and 20,000 shelf spaces at. Overall, the facility offers the best conditions for efficient e-commerce fulfilment, high-quality contract logistics and all-in-one solutions. 14 lorry gates, two of which are for mega trailers, ensure that goods are received and dispatched quickly.
New customer projects have already been acquired for the new site, including a well-known company from the toy industry. Other customer projects have already moved in with their stock, including, for example, a well-known manufacturer of reusable packaging for food and drinks. With the associated deposit system, the customer consistently implements sustainability by avoiding packaging waste.
CO2-neutral operation
The logistics terminal is also sustainable thanks to its "green" design and equipment. It fulfils the requirements of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the best possible certificate, the platinum certificate. In addition to a photovoltaic system with 1,000 kWp1 and the use of air-heat pump technology throughout the complex, LED lighting, extensive roof and façade greening along with an irrigation system and cistern ensure CO2-neutral operation. The facility also has a charging infrastructure for e-bikes, e-cars and pre-equipment for e-trucks.
Growth course continues
With the new logistics centre, WEHNER operates two logistics locations in Langenfeld and is expanding its space capacity to 20,500 square metres. "We are delighted to be able to continue our growth trajectory of recent years by moving into the new facility," says Mark Wehner. "Together with the Noerpel Group, we will continue to expand our customised services."
As a specialist in e-commerce fulfilment, WEHNER has more than 15 years of experience. The company has been part of the Noerpel Group since September 2023. Whether warehousing solutions, dispatch handling or after-sales management - customers at other Noerpel Group locations also benefit from the company's special expertise and experience.
1)The abbreviation kWp, which is commonly used in photovoltaics, stands for kilowatt peak. It indicates the maximum output in kilowatts (kW) that a photovoltaic system can generate.
