New inland terminal - BLG rents site in Ahlhorn
BREMEN, 22 October 2024 - BLG LOGISTICS has leased around 35 hectares on the decommissioned NATO airport in Ahlhorn. From spring 2025, a new inland terminal for automotive logistics will be built on the site, which will offer space for around 17,000 vehicles by the end of 2025. There is an option to further expand the terminal in the future and increase the parking capacity to up to 40,000 vehicles. BLG is creating around 200 new jobs in the region with the new site.
The site in the Metropolpark Ahlhorn offers optimal transport connections: It is located directly at the intersection of the European north-south axis and offers a strategically favourable bi-modal transport connection with its own active siding as well as other reactivatable sidings. Another plus point from BLG's point of view: the northern German seaports can be reached quickly from Ahlhorn.
The BLG LOGISTICS car terminal network comprises 13 locations in Germany, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine. Last year, around five million vehicles were handled, transported or technically processed in BLG's global automotive network. The customer portfolio is made up of manufacturers, shipping companies and mobility and fleet customers. With Ahlhorn, the network is growing with an additional modern terminal. "Despite the current situation in the automotive market, we are confident that this area will continue to develop. Ahlhorn offers the best conditions for BLG's new inland terminal. In addition to optimal transport connections, we have sufficient space here for technical services," says Florian Schimzack, Managing Director of BLG AutoTerminal Deutschland GmbH & Co.
Another advantage is the proximity to the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven (ATB). "We see new space capacities in Ahlhorn that we can offer our customers. The location can be reached quickly by rail and road, so we can closely link our inland terminal in Ahlhorn with the ATB via a daily shuttle connection, increase the efficiency of both terminals and offer our customers an even higher level of service and flexibility," explains Jan Bellendorf, Commercial Director of BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven.
The new location of BLG AutoTerminal Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG in Ahlhorn will primarily be active in the three services of parking space rental ("space"), operational handling services ("handling") and technical services ("technology"). In addition, the Ahlhorn inland terminal will play a central role in the realisation of integrated logistics and network solutions. In addition to the parking spaces for around 17,000 vehicles, BLG is investing in a modern, customer-oriented unit in the area of technology in order to offer customers various services and optimise their logistics processes. These include vehicle preparation, washing vehicles and removing transport protection film, quality checks, painting work, smart repairs, conversion and removal of finished vehicles as well as technical modifications (including conversion to LPG, application of underbody protection) and equipping special models such as tradesmen's vehicles and applications.
"As one of the largest logistics, industrial and business parks in north-west Germany, we are delighted about the partnership with BLG LOGISTICS. The establishment of such an important logistics player at our site confirms our future-orientated development concept. By creating new jobs and expanding the infrastructure, BLG is not only strengthening the regional economy, but also investing in the future of the location. These investments create lasting value and synergies that will bring sustainable benefits to all partners in our network and ultimately to the entire region," says Rainer Kolthoff, Managing Director of Metropolpark Hansalinie GmbH, on the occasion of BLG's arrival.
