Investment in the future: BLG rents space for High & Heavy Factory in Bremerhaven
The lease of the "MWB space" with two ship berths will enable the BLG Group to further expand its High & Heavy segment in Bremerhaven in the future

BREMERHAVEN, 6 March 2023 - The seaport and logistics company BLG LOGISTICS is renting an attractive space in the immediate vicinity of the BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven from 1 July 2023. The project was recently approved by the BLG Group's Supervisory Board. The so-called MWB area at Barkhausenstraße 60 comprises 60,000 square metres of open and hall space as well as two berths with a 600-metre-long quay.
"With this investment, we are responding to the increased demand for handling self-propelled units, breakbulk cargo and project cargo and strengthening our High & Heavy segment in the AUTOMOBILE Division," explains Matthias Magnor, Member of the Board of Management and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the BLG Group. This is because renting the site will make it possible to both increase throughput and expand the range of services relating to the import and export of rolling construction machinery, tractors and other heavy goods. With a handling volume of around 1.2 million tonnes of high & heavy goods per year, BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven is already one of the largest RoRo terminals of its kind in Europe. The expansion of the BLG area will also lead to an overall increase in efficiency and stability for all cargo segments.
BLG LOGISTICS is now planning to develop a high & heavy factory for technical services in Bremerhaven by 2026. The open-air and hall space to be rented, including the cranes already installed, will enable the assembly and disassembly of large systems. In addition to the planned free port status, the connection of the site to the 240-hectare area of the car terminal is also an important aspect - it is directly adjacent to the BLG areas in Kaiserhafen. This means that access from the BLG terminal to the MWB site will be direct in future. At the same time, delivery and removal of high & heavy goods by lorry will also be possible to and from the MWB site.
MWB Grundstücksverwaltungs GmbH is the owner - and namesake - of the property on Barkhausenstraße. The site is currently still used for shipyard operations and will be gradually put into operation by BLG from July. Until the development is complete - including the energy-efficient refurbishment of the buildings - BLG will use the site to support and relieve the core area of the car terminal.
