ID Logistics plans to expand the largest parcel unit for Ikea in Germany into a centre of excellence
Griesheim, 19 February 2024 - A year ago, the contract service provider ID Logistics installed one of the most modern and highly automated logistics facilities in ongoing operations for IKEA Germany at its site in Dortmund with an investment in the double-digit million range. The aim of the two-year conversion was to accelerate the growth of the parcel business in Germany's largest IKEA warehouse in the B2C e-commerce market and at the same time significantly reduce CO² emissions. During a tour of the site in January 2024, IKEA's international management team was able to see for themselves how smoothly the 44,000 m² high-tech site is running and how much efficiency has been increased.
"We are already achieving an increase in order lines from 180,000 to 270,000 per week. This corresponds to a 60% increase in volumes - and we still see room for improvement. In future, we will be able to double our original output - without needing more staff or more space. What is particularly pleasing is that, in parallel with the efficiency increases, we have been able to significantly reduce CO² emissions through optimised energy management, carton reduction, the use of ecological filling materials and carton 'on-demand' technology," comments Robin Otto, CEO of ID Logistics Germany.

"The further development of outstanding locations means that we are continuously optimising all previous technological and ecological developments with the aim of becoming a benchmark in the eCommerce sector. IKEA and other eCommerce customers of ID Logistics benefit from this," says Detlef Kurzbuch, Commercial Director ID Logistics Germany.
