GLP completes redevelopment of Schifferstadt logistics park
Frankfurt, 26 March 2024 - GLP, a leading global developer, owner and operator of logistics real estate, data centres and renewable energy systems, is completing its redevelopment project in Schifferstadt with the completion of two 54,000 m2 logistics buildings. Each of the two buildings offers an 8,500 m2 mezzanine area and 2,000 m2 of office and social space. The site includes parking spaces for 124 cars and 35 lorries.
Like all of GLP's new developments in the German market, the Schifferstadt logistics park was built in accordance with the strict sustainability criteria of the DGNB German Sustainable Building Council and realised in accordance with the DGNB Gold standard.
When developing the new logistics park, GLP placed great emphasis on conserving valuable resources by saving building materials: "By recycling building materials from the previous building and selecting certified, recyclable new building materials, GLP made a major contribution to the sustainability of the building. We used a total of 10,000 cubic metres of certified recycled mineral material in the earthworks. By recycling, we have significantly reduced CO2 emissions that would otherwise have been generated during the production and transport of new materials," says Michael Gerke, Head of Development Germany, GLP.
The logistics park is heated by a sustainable heating system with energy-efficient air-to-air heat pumps. Increased insulation of the roofs and façades reduces the energy required to heat both buildings. As with all new developments by GLP, the roofs of both buildings are pre-equipped for the installation of PV (photovoltaic) systems.
The roofs and façades of both buildings are generously greened. Outside, rainwater is collected in catch basins for resource-saving irrigation. To promote biodiversity, the green areas have been planted with native trees and shrubs.
The property in Schifferstadt has eight dual charging columns with a total of 16 charging points. Further car parking spaces have been prepared for the installation of an additional 11 dual charging points with 22 charging points. This e-charging infrastructure is complemented by covered bicycle stands with charging stations for electric bicycles.
The extended facilities include additional rest areas with toilets and showers for lorry drivers.
The Schifferstadt Logistics Park is located in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, one of Germany's most efficient business locations, between the Rhine-Main and Stuttgart conurbations. The metropolitan area is crossed by busy European transport routes in a west-east and north-south direction and is a sought-after location for logistics and distribution. Mannheim, just 26 kilometres away, offers an ICE train stop, and within a radius of just 28 kilometres there are two major infrastructure facilities, the combined road/rail terminal in Ludwigshafen and the port of Mannheim.
