GLP completes installation of one of the largest renewable energy systems in Europe at G-Park Zevenaar
Frankfurt, 5 July 2023 - GLP, a leading global developer of logistics real estate, digital infrastructure and renewable energy systems, has completed the installation of a large photovoltaic (PV) system to generate solar power on the roof of its Dutch site G-Park Zevenaar.
G-Park Zevenaar, a 133,000 square metre logistics property, is a pioneering project by GLP Europe for the use of renewable energy in the Netherlands. The large-scale PV system for generating solar power on the roof of the building has an installed capacity totalling 16.2 megawatts. The installation covers an area the size of 21 football pitches. The installation will save 4,629 tonnes of CO2 in the first year of operation and 78,227 tonnes over a 25-year operating period.
G-Park Zevenaar is located in BusinessPark 7Poort in the established, prosperous Arnhem-Nijmegen logistics region, which ranks fifth in the 2022 Dutch logistics hotspot ranking. The location is close to the Dutch-German border on the main transport routes from Rotterdam and Amsterdam to the European markets.
G-Park Zevenaar was developed in accordance with the BREEAM Excellent principles. The property was awarded the BREEAM Excellent certificate thanks to its photovoltaic system. The energy generated is fed into the public electricity grid and used on site by the building's tenant. For the benefit of nature, measures were taken to protect native birds and plants during construction and installation.
"Equipping buildings with sustainable energy generation options, including PV to generate solar power, is crucial to enable investors, developers, landlords and tenants to achieve their net-zero targets and future-proof their buildings. GLP is committed to this transformation in the logistics market. Economic benefits through cost savings in energy supply are just one of many advantages that tenants of the building will benefit from in the future," says Philippe Hendriks, Country Director for the Netherlands, GLP Europe.
