Gebrüder Weiss opens logistics terminal in Reutte - New logistics services for industry and trade in Tyrol / Less long-distance transport thanks to regional bundling of shipments

Reutte / Lauterach, 23 March 2023: Gebrüder Weiss opened a logistics terminal in the Kreckelmoos industrial estate in Reutte on 22 March. The location is specially designed to meet the requirements of local businesses in Tyrol. Tours for the collection and delivery of import and export goods are now shorter and more flexible. They reach Reutte directly, are transshipped and stored there and delivered over short distances, including as express shipments. Customs clearance as well as air and sea freight services round off the local portfolio. The logistics company has invested around eight million euros in the new building, which was completed in less than a year. The location complements the existing Gebrüder Weiss branches in Innsbruck, Wörgl and Hall in Tyrol as well as the Bavarian locations in Memmingen, Waldkraiburg, Passau and Nuremberg.

Günter Schmarl, Branch Manager Tyrol at Gebrüder Weiss, explains the positive effects of this: "We are reducing journeys over the busy long-distance pass between Tyrol and Bavaria and relieving regional traffic because we are bundling warehouse capacities scattered across the district close to the senders and recipients of goods. This is not only more efficient for everyone involved, it also follows the sustainability and climate strategy of the state of Tyrol, which envisages regional distribution centres for the collection and delivery of goods."

In the medium term, around 30 employees will be employed in Reutte and apprentices will also be trained. The terminal obtains the majority of its energy requirements from a 600 square metre photovoltaic system on the roof of the hall. The solar system saves eleven tonnes of CO2 per year and generates clean electricity for a heat pump, which is used to keep the logistics centre at the right temperature. Gebrüder Weiss aims to operate all of its logistics facilities worldwide in a climate-neutral manner by 2030. To achieve this, the company is increasingly relying on electricity from renewable sources.
