Gebrüder Weiss: New location in Albania

With a location in Tirana, the logistics company is consolidating its network of locations in south-east Europe / Transport connections to and from Albania are being expanded

Tirana / Lauterach, 13 February 2023: Gebrüder Weiss opened a new location in the Albanian capital Tirana on 6 February. The international transport and logistics company is thus closing the geographical gap between Montenegro and North Macedonia and expanding its transport connections in Southeast Europe. Gebrüder Weiss is now represented in the Western Balkans with its own locations in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

"Transport to and from Albania has increased significantly over the past ten years. The majority of imported goods come from the European Union. With our location in Tirana, the country's most important transport hub, we want to offer customers from industry and trade direct connections to Albania and from there to the EU," says Thomas Moser, Director and Regional Manager Black Sea/CIS at Gebrüder Weiss.

The prerequisites for this are good: the logistics service provider has a dense overland transport network in neighbouring countries as well as in Central and Eastern Europe. "As a first step, we will expand the existing groupage line between North Macedonia (Skopje) and Albania in both directions. New connections to Albania's main trading partner Italy are also planned," says Dorina Islami, Country Manager Albania at Gebrüder Weiss.

The economic outlook in Albania is more positive again after the coronavirus pandemic. Economic growth of around three per cent is expected for 2023. Imports such as food, machinery, chemicals and textiles predominate in the balance of trade. Exports to the European Union, with which a free trade agreement has been in place since 2009, include clothing and food, iron and steel as well as other raw and construction materials.
