Tbilisi / Lauterach, 9 October 2024 - The international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has expanded its logistics terminal in Tbilisi, Georgia, by 13,000 square metres. The company is thus further expanding its capacities in the Caucasus. "With this expansion, we are responding to the demand for transport and logistics services, which has arisen in particular as a result of the growing trade between the European Union, Georgia and its neighbouring countries Armenia and Azerbaijan," explains Wolfram Senger-Weis, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss.

"This is already the third expansion since the logistics centre opened twelve years ago. Following the first expansion in 2019 and the connection to the rail network the following year, we now have a total of 142,000 square metres of storage and handling space, including a railway siding, car parks and open spaces. With 177 employees, we offer our customers all logistics services at the Tbilisi site," explains Alexander Kharlamov, Country Manager Georgia at Gebrüder Weiss. "We are also using the expansion to further develop our transport services in the Caucasus region and to intensify our cooperation with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. Major international customers will also benefit from this," adds Thomas Moser, Regional Manager Black Sea / CIS at Gebrüder Weiss. Investments in the latest expansion totalled 11.5 million euros, with total investments since the company was founded amounting to over 25 million euros.

Gebrüder Weiss recognised the economic potential of Georgia and the geostrategic importance of the Central Asian countries back in 2012. The company therefore founded its own national subsidiary in Georgia. Since then, the logistics centre at Tbilisi International Airport has developed into a central hub for the growing exchange of goods between Europe and Central Asia as well as within the Caucasus region.

Free trade agreements with the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union have further promoted trade and made Georgia an important transit country.

Today, producers from the textile, household goods, high-tech and automotive industries use the services of Gebrüder Weiss - from truck and rail transport to air and sea freight, customs clearance and warehouse logistics. In the past five years, Gebrüder Weiss has handled around 130,000 shipments with a total weight of 470,000 tonnes in Georgia.
