Gebrüder Weiss celebrates its 20th anniversary in Serbia
Since its launch two decades ago, the logistics company has invested over 20 million euros in expanding its network and services in Serbia / New logistics warehouse at the headquarters near Belgrade / Pioneer in dual training for logistics specialists

Belgrade / Lauterach, 22 October 2024. 20 years after entering the Serbian market, the international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss can look back on a positive year. "Serbia has undergone remarkable economic development in recent years. Our decision to establish a central logistics hub for the Western Balkans was the right one," explained Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss, to media representatives in Belgrade on 18 October.
Serbia has developed into an attractive procurement market for car parts, food, textiles and furniture. Around 70 per cent of exports go to the EU. In addition, the Balkan state is the main supplier of agricultural products for many of its neighbouring countries, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
Today, Gebrüder Weiss offers its customers in Serbia land, air and sea freight transport, customs clearance and logistics solutions. Several times a week, groupage shipments are sent to neighbouring countries and the EU internal market. The logistics provider has a total of 20,000 square metres of logistics space in the country. In 2023, the company generated a net turnover of 53 million euros.
In addition to the headquarters in Dobanovci near Belgrade, Gebrüder Weiss has three other locations in Serbia: in Novi Sad in the north and in Niš and Strojkovce near Leskovac in the south. A new logistics warehouse was recently put into operation in Dobanovci. The company has invested over 20 million euros in its logistics facilities to date. "By the end of the year, we will invest another million euros in our home delivery services and additional warehouse space," says Thomas Schauer, Regional Manager Central and Southeast Europe at Gebrüder Weiss.
Another focus is the topic of sustainability. For example, the Dobanovci site obtains all of its electricity requirements from a solar plant, which reduces CO2 emissions by 90 tonnes per year. Eight natural gas lorries (CNG) are on the road on four routes for the consumer goods industry. Detergents and cleaning agents are also transported to Germany sustainably by rail. "Every year, 1,500 containers travel by rail from Budapest to the Ruhr region. This saves us more than a thousand tonnes of CO2 compared to conventional truck transport," explains Roland Raith, Country Manager Serbia at Gebrüder Weiss. In the coming year, emission-free e-transporters will also be used for end customer deliveries in Serbia.
Gebrüder Weiss started in 2004 with a small office in Belgrade and now employs 300 people in Serbia. Gebrüder Weiss was one of the first logistics companies there to implement the principle of dual training for young professionals. Since 2018, young specialists have been receiving both in-company and academic training in cooperation with the Transport and Technical School in Belgrade. "We offer career starters good long-term job prospects in various logistics professions," says Roland Raith.
