Fiege realises Autostore project in Greven-Reckenfeld
The contract logistics expert automates its small parts storage and order picking. The new Autostore has over 75,000 containers as well as intelligent robot and packaging technology
Greven, 18th April 2023 - The Fiege Group is pushing ahead with the automation of its logistics locations and is building an Autostore at the Mega Center Greven-Reckenfeld. The expandable storage system offers space for 75,000 bins and is initially designed for around 1,000 bin presentations per hour with 33 robots and eleven ports. The Greven-based logistics service provider is thus opening up new scaling options and significantly more flexibility for the online tool retailer Contorion. The Autostore is scheduled to go into operation this summer.
Tobias Tschötsch, Managing Director of Contorion, says: "As a digital specialist retailer for professional tools and workshop supplies, we offer the best online range for small and medium-sized companies from trade and industry with over 500,000 products from renowned brands. To be able to fulfil orders at short notice and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction, fast and smooth fulfilment is essential for us. By building the Autostore, Fiege offers us the perfect conditions to provide our growing customer base with the best possible service."
Fiege has been handling eCommerce fulfilment for Contorion at the multi-user location in Greven-Reckenfeld since 2019. The contract for the collaboration was recently extended until 2027. Meike Schmidt-Krenz, Managing Director of Fiege's Consumer Products business unit, explains: "The D2C business continues to grow unabated. Maximum availability of goods and the highest possible throughput are crucial factors. With the Autostore, which is perfectly suited for the storage and picking of small parts, we will offer a fully automated solution in future that will enable us to fulfil our customers' requirements even better and faster."
The Autostore will be built on a floor area of 2,000 square metres. An intelligent pick-and-place robot and a state-of-the-art 3D packaging system are also connected to the system to ensure the most efficient operation possible. Fiege has also already taken the further growth plans of the digital marketplace for trade and industrial supplies into account during construction. Jens Veltel from Fiege-Engineering says: "The plans for doubling the container capacity and thus multiplying the dynamic throughput during ongoing operations are already in the drawer and can be flexibly scaled at any time."
