Fiege publishes its first sustainability report

The Fiege Group has set itself the goal of climate neutrality and has now published its first sustainability report. The report, which is based on the internationally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), refers to the 2022 financial year, serves as an anticipation of the mandatory EU directives from 2025 and creates transparency for customers, partners and other stakeholders.

Greven, 28th August 2023 - The Fiege Group has published its first sustainability report in the year of its 150th anniversary. The report lists in detail all measures that the family-owned company implements on the ecological, economic and social sustainability level. Fiege also reports a company-wide CO2 balance in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) for the first time.

In the 2022 reporting year, Fiege was able to reduce the sum of direct emissions from all locations and own vehicles (Scope 1) as well as indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2) by 34 percent to 39,990 tonnes of CO2 equivalents compared to 2021. The switch to renewable energies when purchasing electricity at Fiege's locations as well as the use of LED lighting across more than 1.2 million square metres of logistics space were key factors in achieving this. The Greven-based logistics service provider achieved further savings by installing new photovoltaic systems on the roofs of its logistics properties. In 2022, Fiege produced almost 1.4 million kilowatt hours of solar power for its own use and for feeding into the public grid.

"Our goal is to hand over our family business to the next Fiege generation in a climate-neutral way", says Felix Fiege, Co-CEO of the Fiege Group, who runs the company together with his cousin Jens Fiege in the fifth generation. "With our first sustainability report, we want to give our customers, partners, other stakeholders and all colleagues an insight into the sustainable initiatives, projects and solutions we are currently working on. And of course, we also look ahead to the challenges of the coming years, which we must master together."

The report is based on Fiege's sustainability strategy, which is divided into three fields of action with a total of seven focus topics. Jens Fiege explains: "It is our aspiration to equally consider responsible and sustainable corporate governance, an environmentally conscious use of resources as well as the best possible working conditions and development opportunities for our colleagues. In this way, we aim to continuously improve our sustainability performance - and our sustainability report creates the transparency we need to review our progress year after year."

Sandra Achternbusch, Executive Director Corporate Sustainability at Fiege, adds: "In the future, we will continue to intensify our sustainability efforts. We are currently working on recording the carbon footprint of our business activities in even more detail and also for the upstream and downstream value chain." Moreover, Fiege is constantly looking for new ways "to bring us a step closer to our declared goal of climate neutrality", says Achternbusch, who also emphasises: "We can only master the challenges of the future together, which is why we are pleased about the close and trusting cooperation with our customers and partners."
