Fiege creates guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence
The Fiege Group is increasingly focussing on artificial intelligence in all areas of the company. The Greven-based logistics service provider has now created a controlled framework to ensure the conscientious use of AI-based technologies throughout the company.
Greven, 20 June 2024 - Leading the way responsibly: Fiege has introduced five self-binding guidelines that regulate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the company. The guidelines are based on the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act and focus on the principles of explainability, transparency, fairness, data protection and robustness. The aim is to use AI-based technologies in accordance with generally applicable ethical standards and exclusively in line with the values of the 150-year-old, fifth-generation family-run company.
Kenza Ait Si Abbou, board member and CTO at Fiege, explains: "Artificial intelligence has the potential to radically change our society. In addition to the extremely important positive effects for us, the new technologies also harbour risks that we must not ignore. It is therefore up to us to utilise AI in the intended areas of activity and only for the benefit of our employees, our customers and partners as well as all stakeholders. We fulfil this responsibility with our new AI guidelines."
The guidelines are intended to ensure that decisions based on algorithms and artificial intelligence are comprehensible and explainable at all times. "The key prerequisite for this is transparency, as this is the only way to create the necessary trust. All users need to know in which specific areas and applications AI is being used," says Ait Si Abbou. It is also essential that only fair decisions are made with the support of AI. It is crucial to rely on technologies that comply with data protection regulations and are absolutely robust against manipulation of any kind. Ait Si Abbou emphasises: "Only applications that comply with these five principles are considered for use by us. This ensures that we really support our colleagues in their daily work and deliver reliable added value for our customers."
