Fiege breaks ground for new logistics centre in Bülach

Fiege is expanding its Bülach site in Switzerland. A new logistics centre with 17,000 square metres of additional warehouse space is being built in the immediate vicinity of Zurich Airport. Completion is planned for summer 2024.

Greven (DE) / Bülach (CH), 25 May 2023 - Space for growth: Fiege has held a symbolic and belated ground-breaking ceremony for its new and state-of-the-art multi-user centre in Bülach, Switzerland. From summer 2024, Fiege will offer its customers from the e-commerce, retail and industry sectors even more efficient logistics processes and flexible growth prospects not far from Zurich.

Jens Fiege, Co-CEO of the Fiege Group, who is the fifth generation to run the 150-year-old family business together with his cousin Felix Fiege, says: "We have been working successfully with our customers and partners in Switzerland for over 25 years and feel very much at home here. Special thanks go to the municipality of Bülach for allowing us to continue to grow at this special location. The new building allows us to meet the various requirements of our customers in an even more targeted manner - the new logistics centre is a real milestone for our business in Switzerland."

Martin Heinrich, Fiege branch manager in Bülach, adds: "The fact that Zurich Airport is only a stone's throw away and the Swiss-German border is close by ensures optimal access to the Swiss market and increases the attractiveness of the location." The project also benefits from the fact that the new logistics centre is being built adjacent to the existing Fiege site. "Suitable sites for new construction projects are rare in Switzerland. The proximity of the two logistics centres allows us to achieve valuable synergy effects," says Heinrich.

While pallets will primarily be stored in high racks on the ground floor, Fiege is planning an automated warehouse on the upper floor using Autostore. "This will also function under air extraction, so that we are optimally protected in terms of fire safety," explains Heinrich. The logistics centre will have demand-controlled LED lighting and an air heat pump. Fiege plans to produce the majority of the required energy itself via a PV system on the roof.

With its future-oriented and energy-efficient construction method, the property fulfils the gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Furthermore, Fiege places great value on optimal working conditions: "We want our colleagues to enjoy working here. That's why bright offices and pleasant lounges were a must. But the absolute highlight is certainly the large roof terrace," says Heinrich. The logistics centre is being built by a Credit Suisse Asset Management real estate fund, which is realising the building tailored to Fiege's requirements.
