- Sales grow by 11.7% to 2.94 billion euros
- Consignment volume at the previous year's level
- Share of B2C business decreases from 18.9% in 2021 to 16.1
- Further network expansion
- Focus areas 2023: Green logistics and digitalisation
Kleinostheim - 15 March 2023. 2022 was a year of consolidation for IDS Logistik GmbH after nine consecutive years of growth. While turnover was up on the previous year, the overall volume of consignments remained at the previous year's level.
Germany's largest groupage cooperation increased its turnover by 11.7% to EUR 2.94 billion compared to 2021. It transported a total of 16.7 million consignments. This corresponds to the previous year's result with a slight increase of 0.3 %.
"2022 showed a mixed picture for the national business. While the shipment volume in the B2B segment remained constant compared to the previous year, private customer deliveries returned to normality following the sharp increase in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decline was certainly exacerbated by widespread consumer restraint as a result of the energy crisis and the sharp rise in prices," explains IDS Managing Director Michael Bargl.
The shipment volume in the national business was 1.7% below the previous year's level. In Germany, the IDS partner companies moved 3.5 million tonnes of goods. This is almost 1.7 % less than in the previous year. In contrast, the general cargo network was able to increase its export shipments by 8.6 %.
Further capacity expansion
IDS continued to consistently expand its capacities in the past year and will continue to modernise and expand its depot infrastructure. In December 2022, the new Rieck depot in Oberkrämer, Brandenburg, north of Berlin, was integrated into the IDS network as the 52nd IDS location.
By consolidating the depot network with additional locations, IDS is emphasising its strategy of further expanding network stability, particularly in fast-growing areas and metropolitan regions, by double-staffing depots and now even triple-staffing depots in the greater Berlin area.
DSV Hamburg became the 53rd location and third depot in the Hanseatic city on 1 March 2023. The new IDS Partner Gras depot in Polch, Rhineland-Palatinate, is also scheduled to open at the beginning of April. It will be the 54th IDS depot to go online. Further new IDS locations and warehouse expansions are already being planned.
Outlook
"Even though the first quarter of 2023 got off to a slow start, we expect shipment volumes to increase in the second half of the year. However, the global political situation makes it extremely difficult to make predictions for the current year," explains Michael Bargl. "In addition, the staff shortage, particularly in the driver and handling areas, and the shortage of logistics space will become even more acute." To counteract this, IDS is focusing on further streamlining and optimising processes. This is currently being accompanied, for example, by the conversion of mobile data collection devices to the latest generation with many innovative additional features.
Another major focus of the IDS network is the development of a sustainability strategy. This includes standardised CO2 measurement among the IDS partners, the pooling of research capacities and the definition of further IDS reduction targets for the carbon footprint.
