30 years of Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik - on course for growth with investments
Großbeeren / Neuss, 09.04.2024. Efficient recycling continues to gain in importance: for this year's 30th anniversary, Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik from Neuss is putting a polystyrene recycling plant and a fully automated digital weighing terminal into operation. The company's own logistics department is also a growth driver.
Whether it's the circular economy, extended producer responsibility or mandatory recycling quotas - at Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik in Neuss, current social developments are directly reflected on the company premises. The aim is to recycle 70 per cent of packaging waste across the EU by 2030. The company is now investing in its own polystyrene recycling plant. It compresses packaging polystyrene - one of the most frequently generated waste materials in the world. It can then be used as a raw material for the production of new polystyrene, clothing or thermal insulation. Rieck expects to recycle around 16,000 cubic metres in the first year alone.
The company's own channel baling plant was launched ten years ago. In the last financial year, more than 30,000 tonnes of waste paper were sorted, processed and baled for the first time. "The industry is dynamic, and so are we," says Stefan Rieck, Managing Partner of the Rieck Logistics Group. "Whether it's new materials, innovative recycling solutions, legal requirements or social rethinking - we keep our finger on the pulse."
Everything from a single source
It is important to the company to offer its customers a one-stop service. Right from the start, the site's own logistics department rounded off its offering with nationwide and global logistics solutions. "Many companies appreciate the one-stop shopping we offer," explains Managing Director Daniel Gartmann. "The department's share of total sales is growing steadily, which means it is now making an important and growing contribution to our company's success."
Rieck also invests continuously to ensure optimum service. The company is switching completely to paperless processing for its roll-off and skip container vehicles. This year, a fully automated and digital weighing terminal will also be put into operation. The vehicle fleet is state-of-the-art in terms of safety standards and the Euro standard.
From pioneer to industry leader
Within three decades, the company has developed from a small innovator to an industry giant: In April 1994, the then smallest Rieck branch in Mülheim entered the waste disposal business with five employees and 700 square metres of hall space. A short time later, it changed its name to Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik GmbH & Co. KG and moved to Neuss in 1999. Today, the company offers waste disposal services on 40,000 square metres with a hazardous waste interim storage facility as well as a wide range of recycling solutions and employs 76 people.
Looking ahead
Stefan Rieck is certain that two developments will characterise the industry: "Firstly, the increasing mandatory recycling quotas. However, only materials that are sorted by type can be recycled. That's why the trend is towards ever faster, fully automated sorting and recycling technologies - with sensors and AI support."
Rieck Entsorgungs-Logistik is looking forward to the challenges ahead - and is currently on the lookout for additional space for its positive business development.
