Hamburg, September 17, 2026 – Together with Hamburg's Senator for Economic Affairs and Innovation, Dr. Melanie Leonhard, and the general contractor Gieseke, the CEO of BLG LOGISTICS, Matthias Magnor, today laid the foundation stone for the future of automotive logistics in the Port of Hamburg. BLG is investing around 25 million euros in the sustainable upgrading and further development of the BLG Autoterminal Hamburg.
The car terminal is located on a site leased by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) in the middle of the Port of Hamburg. The investments are part of a long-term agreement between BLG LOGISTICS (BLG) and HPA for the sustainable development and comprehensive upgrading of the site.
A modern infrastructure for vehicle preparation, technical services and other automotive logistics processes is being created on an area of around 10,300 square metres. The layout of the terminal will be adapted and existing halls will be merged into a new multifunctional hall. By bundling the workshop, car wash and paint shop under one roof, processes can be made more efficient and space can be used in a more targeted manner.
Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economic Affairs and Innovation of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, said: "The laying of the foundation stone for the new workshop hall at the BLG Autoterminal Hamburg is an important signal for Hamburg as a business and logistics location. The project combines modern infrastructure with efficient processes and at the same time focuses on concrete measures for greater sustainability. Investments like these strengthen the future viability of the location and show that economic development and ecological responsibility belong together."
"With the investments in this location, embedded in the port development plan, we are setting an example for the future of the Port of Hamburg and creating the best conditions for the requirements of the automotive logistics of the future. In doing so, we are showing that climate protection and economic success are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, the climate-neutral strengthening of our economy is a prerequisite for our long-term competitiveness," emphasized Matthias Magnor, CEO of the BLG Group.
Completion of the new multifunctional hall is scheduled for September 2027. It will cover a floor area of around 10,300 square metres. Compared to the current stock, this corresponds to a space optimisation of around 35 per cent. The hall has a central logistics area of around 4,500 square metres, where workshop processes and lifting platforms can be arranged according to customer requirements. The bundling of services under one roof creates shorter distances and efficient processes. The range of services includes painting work and other finishing, the preparation of vehicles – for example by vehicle washing or ozone treatment – as well as technical services, including inspections, repairs and installations.
