Multiloop: Schoeller Group and Fiege develop sustainable reusable system for online retail
The Schoeller Group, which specialises in reusable systems, and the logistics service provider Fiege are founding the joint venture Multiloop. Multiloop develops reusable shipping packaging for e-commerce and offers online retailers the opportunity to reduce their ecological footprint in a cost-effective and sustainable way.
Pullach i. Isartal/Greven, 24 April 2025 - A joint venture: The Schoeller Group and Fiege have founded the joint venture Multiloop together with Leif Erichson, former President Europe of the fashion brand Esprit, and serial founder Elias Kuby. In contrast to conventional cardboard boxes, which dominate e-commerce, Multiloop focuses on durable and reusable shipping packaging made from recyclable, water-repellent polypropylene. One Multiloop reusable box replaces an average of 30 disposable boxes and saves up to 86 per cent CO2. At the end of their life cycles, the packaging is recycled and used to produce new multiloop boxes.
‘Our motto is reuse before recycling - simple, affordable and suitable for the masses,’ says Leif Erichson, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Multiloop. ‘The end customer only pays a deposit, which is of course 100 per cent refunded when the packaging is returned. Our strategic differentiation from the competition is our unique and convenient return system with 15,000 planned return points in supermarkets, petrol stations and kiosks. Our packaging is logistics-optimised and there is virtually no implementation effort for online retailers. With Multiloop, we are also relying on an attractive pay-per-use model that every online retailer can afford.’
Elias Kuby, also Co-Founder and Managing Director at Multiloop, adds: ‘Multiloop combines the best of both worlds: With the Schoeller Group, we have a partner that has been developing and producing innovative reusable systems for over 60 years. The logistics service provider Fiege brings extensive expertise in e-commerce, logistics and the last mile to the partnership. We want to use these strategic partnerships to build Multiloop into the European market leader in the field of reusable shipping packaging in the long term.’
Jens Fiege, who is the fifth generation Co-CEO of the more than 150-year-old family business together with his cousin Felix Fiege, explains: ‘There is a growing awareness of sustainability in our society. In e-commerce in particular, more and more end customers are demanding alternative packaging and shipping options. With Multiloop, we have developed a solution that really does make e-commerce more sustainable and resource-efficient - and is accessible to everyone at the same time.’ And Martin Schoeller, Co-Chairman of the Schoeller Group, says: ‘In order to grow Multiloop successfully and ensure the best possible customer experience, we will continue to expand our comprehensive, Europe-wide returns network together with our partners. More sustainability is best achieved together. We look forward to writing a sustainable success story with Multiloop.’
